Run Forest Run 43Km @Gasselte

Last Sunday I ran what was my longest run ever: 43Km. As if the distance itself wasn't enough, it was a  trail run!!!

Trail runs are great. The main challenge is that they are mostly unpredictable: you never know what exactly to expect in terms of terrain conditions, obstacles, woods, tracks and etc - but this is also what makes it so nice!!!

We did some 26 and 30Km trail earlier this year before these 43Km. These are important steps in our training program. As some of you already know, we have a 50K trail as our main objective/ challenge for this year!!!

Running those 43Km was great to see how we improved in the last months, but also to see that there is still a lot work to do. I have to learn a lot about strategy. Originally I am a sprinter, a 5Km runner and sometimes it feels like I will never learn how to start slower or walking when running is not worthy, for instance.

In this run, there were many places where running was almost impossible and there I was... trying to keep the pace. So dumb! Such a waste of energy...

Anyway, I am glad we still have time for those kind of improvements and maybe many others.

There were 11 women at total. 2 couldn't Finnish within the time limit (5h30min).

I finished 5th place in 4h40min.

Seems like a good result, but as I said before, there is still a lot to learn.

All the other women were at least 10 years older and have much more experience in ultra marathons than me - which makes me glad, proud and hopeful!!!!
